Workshop Descriptions
"Coaching
Church Leaders:" Steve Ogne
This 4-session Advanced Workshop, led by coaching expert
Steve Ogne,
is especially designed for those who want to empower,
encourage and effectively support leaders in the church.
As a pastor/shepherd of your flock, you have invested
much of your life in one of the primary Scriptural
mandates for pastors - to "Equip the saints for the work
of ministry...." (Eph 4:12). This workshop is
designed to help you (and perhaps other leaders in your
church) carry out this mandate with greater
effectiveness, with a special focus on leading/equipping
leaders - both those on your staff and those in your
congregation.
You will be guided via an interactive, adult-learning
process to discover:
- the Biblical basis for coaching
- the art of asking questions
- how to improve ("G.R.O.W.") your coaching skills
-
the role of character, credibility and confrontation
- how to coach pastors, staff, small group leaders,
church planters
Women's Track:
Tami
Resch and
Ruth Ann Batstone
Could a women's forum actually
help me with Real Life Right Now? Does anyone care about
me (or just my ministry to others)? Who pastors the pastor’s
wife? The Women's Forum is where we will discuss your issues and
see how the power of the gospel can encourage, heal and empower
us in Christ. This 6 session forum, designed especially for
church planter wives, will deconstruct narrow and confining
stereotypes in the process of helping church planter spouses
understand more deeply their unique, empowering and important
role in kingdom work. A special focus will be on providing a
“safe place” for the development of the heart of the church
planter’s spouse.
"Every Church Can Plant a Church"
(Parenting Church Communities):
Steve Ogne
Are you interested in parenting a church plant, but believe you
lack the knowledge and resources to do so?
We believe it is possible for every church to plant
a church if given the correct tools and support.
A Parenting Church Community (PCC) is an
intentional kingdom partnership between established church
leaders (clergy & laity) from a minimum of 3 established
churches (including 3 Parenting Pastors) who share a common
kingdom vision for church planting in their region (e.g.
3 new church plants) and a strong commitment to resource
one another to help fulfill that vision.
This three part workshop explores the essential
components in establishing a Parenting Church Community.
This includes:Vision
& Mission, Component & Processes, Strategies & Plans, and
Launching & Leading.
Time
will also be given for Q & A.
"Nuts
and Bolts of Starting a Church Planting Community"
(New Church Communities/Networks):
Bob Orner
A recent study reported
that, “that having
well-designed support systems for the planter have improved
their survivability. Some groups report that their survival rate
has doubled since implementing important systems such as
assessment, training, and coaching.”
The study also found
that the “Odds of
survivability increase by 135% when the church planter meets
with a group of church planting peers.”
This three part workshop
will focus on the development of certain “essential components”
necessary for establishing a regional church planting network
that will result in the spiritual, social and cultural renewal
of a region. These “New Church Network (NCN) Components” include
vision, spiritual dynamics, assessment, coaching, training,
resourcing, etc. Essential steps needed for the development of
these components will be explored.
"Discovering your Multi Site Model:"
Russ Kapusinski
and
Matt Brown
You've been
hearing about multi-site churches - video venues,
regional campus models, extended multi-sites,
multi-congregational models and hybrids of these. The
question is, how do you begin to evaluate which one of
these models is right for
your churches'
multiplication strategy? Join pastors and leaders from
all around the country for this one-day
workshop lead by two
experienced Multi-Site Pastors from two sides of the
country – California and New York – and two very
different contexts – Suburban San Diego and Urban Park
Slope, Brooklyn NYC. Don’t miss this workshop, as
we explore these key issues:
- What is a Multi-Site Church?
- Why
Start a Multi-Site Church?
- Church
Planting Through Multi-Site Development
-
Strategies for Starting a Multi-Site
- Case
Studies of Various Multi-Site Models/Ministries
"Mobilizing Your Church for Mercy and Justice:"
Randy Nabors
The
local church has great potential to bless the poor and should be
seen as the two part workshop is to provide you with practical ways to
mobilize your new church for the work of mercy and justice
ministries which are so often tragically neglected by church
leaders today. The focus of this workshop will be on equipping
you with practical resources to help train your church leaders
(including deacons) to oversee and do the practical and
necessary works of mercy and justice. This workshop will not
attempt to make you feel guilty in order to motivate you. But
you will be challenged and reminded that the love of Jesus is
meant by God to compel us to action on behalf of the poor.
"Building a Worship
Ministry from Scratch:"
Jason Sears
How to best incorporate, utilize, involve and manage every
resource that God brings – and every Tom, Dick, Harry, Susie,
Mary and Barbara that shows up – to create an exciting, new
worship ministry. Church planters are often hampered by desiring
powerful, Christ-honoring worship without having the best
resources or talent to make it happen. So often we find
ourselves focusing more on “making it good” than “making it
ministry.” This breakout offers practical steps to starting a
worship ministry from scratch and creating an environment that
allows musicians and artists to thrive, while worshipping our
Creator.
"Planting Emerging
Churches:"
Chan Kilgore
New churches have always
been planted on the edge of culture. As culture has
changed, so must our missional approaches to church planting.
This forum will help you better understand the emerging culture
so that you might be more effective in your ministry.
Theologically sound and culturally relevant approaches to
planting emerging churches will be explored. You will learn ten
trends of emerging churches and how they have been effective at
reaching people in new churches.
"Ministry in Ethnic and
Cultural Diversity:"
Andre Rogers
North American is
rapidly becoming more ethnically and culturally diverse and we
are have an obligation to speak to the nations.
Even if you don’t realize it, you have an opportunity to
speak to the differing cultures and ethnicities.
With a clear assessment of yourself and your culture, you
most certainly will attract people of differing backgrounds.
More importantly, as you clearly come to terms with who
God has called you to reach, your people will thirst
passionately with your for radical life and community
transformation. It
is only then, will the ministry in which you have been
entrusted, be defined by excitement, passion and the harvest of
new converts.
"Challenges and Advantages
of Bi-Vocational
Planting:"
Andre Rogers
To reach North America with
Gospel preaching churches, we must utilize more bi-vocational
church planters who will use their talents and gifts for making
money to free a church to start without all of the costs
involved. A bi-vocational church planter is someone who starts a
church, and gains part of his personal income from an outside
source and part from the church. This outside income could be
from work, investments, retirement, or any other sources. This
seminar will examine both the needs and challenges of planting a
church bi-vocationally.
"Staring
a Youth Ministry When There Are No Youth:"
Matt Ryman
Don’t lose any
more families to “big” churches because your church plant
doesn’t have a youth ministry!
This Workshop is especially designed to teach church
planters how to make “youth ministry” a part of their church
plant from the very beginning. All too often, church planters wave goodbye to great
families who feel the need to move on to a bigger church with an
established youth ministry.
In this session you will learn ways to keep such
families, as well as how to grow your church through your youth
ministry! You will
be guided via an interactive, adult-learning process to
discover:
- The Biblical basis for youth ministry
- Youth ministry essentials
- How to apply church planting strategies to youth
ministry
- How to manage a growing ministry
"Technology and Social
Networking:"
Tim Brister
and
Drew Goodmanson
Planting in a Post Christian World: The culture is changing
and therefore there new methods of communication are required.
This session will help you learn how to effectively minister in
a post-Christian context. Come learn the key values
of this Post-Christian generation, the idols that enslave them
and effective ways to communicate the eternal and unchanging
gospel message.
The Internet and the
Sovereignty of God: God has used
major technological and cultural shifts to bring sweeping
change. As our culture moves increasingly online, this
session will help your church effectively use the internet to be
missionaries to unbelievers, gather the unchurched and connect
with your community. Come learn how to use this powerful
tool to change the community in which you are called to plant a
church.
"Burning Heart Society:
Wanted - Gospel Possessed Church Leaders:"
Scotty Smith
This three-part workshop
will explore the cardiogram (heart profile) of the kinds
of leaders desperately needed to be deployed into Jesus'
ripened harvest, as church planters and servant leaders.
What does a grace-captured-heart and a
gospel-defined-lifestyle really look like in a leader?
Join Pastor Scotty Smith for reflection and dialogue
about the critical elements of leadership needed for
twenty-first century church planting & renewal.
"Gospel Centered Preaching:"
Larry Kirk
Transformational preaching plays a central role in effective
church-planting. Gospel-centered preaching is not just
evangelistic preaching; it is the application of the gospel to
the depths of the heart as both the motivation and means for a
transformed life. The importance of Gospel-centered preaching
both to grow and shape a healthy church has remained constant in
the face of significant changes in today¹s culture. Drawing
principles from the bestselling book Christ-Centered
Preaching by Bryan Chapel and the teaching ministry of Tim
Keller (Redeemer Church in NYC), this two session workshop will
help you develop and deliver culturally relevant Christ-centered
sermons that communicate the power of the gospel for both
believers and non-believers.
"Developing your CQ -
Cultural Intelligence:"
Bob Orner
You don’t have
to speak a different language to have a problem being
understood. It may simply be your CQ!
Cultural differences stem from an individual’s experience
and social background, ethnicity, and geography.
In fact, anything that informs the way we view the world
around us. When we are not aware of those differences our
effectiveness as a church planter is greatly hindered.
Cultural Intelligence (CQ), is your ability to correctly
identify culturally-based behaviors; and adapt your own
responses and behaviors appropriately within that context. This
workshop will help you get started in your CQ development as you
interact with the three important ingredients: Knowledge,
Awareness and Skills.
Like three legs of a tripod, all three must be in place
for your CQ to develop.
Regardless of your ministry context, this workshop will
be beneficial to your ministry effectiveness.
"Church Plant
Finances 101:"
Fred Marsh
Mission Church
Finances: How do I set up the financial management of the new
church? How do I obtain tax exempt status? What are
some of the ethical and administrative issues that I need to
consider in the process? Other important details of budget
preparation (including templates), establishing a bank account,
acquiring legal tax exempt status and establishing proper
financial management accountability for the new church.
"Technology for Church
Planters:"
Jason Sears
Seriously?
Don't buy anything at Radio Shack. I don't care how cheap it
is… Budgets are tight, but that doesn’t mean you have to
cheapen the quality of your outreach by giving in to the
“quick-fix” or an “almost” answer to your ministry’s vision. The
right purchases are crucial for short-term success and long-term
investment. This breakout offers practical methods to making the
most of your budget by building the appropriate technical
inventory that will meet your needs now, and continue to support
your congregation as it grows.
We'll cover
topics like:
Microphones –
Can I go wireless?
Software – to
ensure volunteer success
Sound – The
right console for your worship style
Stuff – My music guy says I need this. What do you think
There There will be plenty of time for Q
and A, as every church has unique needs. Come be a part of the
conversation and learn
how to make better
purchases for your music ministry.
